PEER-PEER
SUPPORT
Peer-to-Peer Support is a new
support service offered by Xplore where young people aged between
14 and 18, are trained to support other young people in dealing
with problems.

Peer Mentors act as a friendly face, a listening
ear, someone who shares their experiences, and helps to encourage
their peers to achieve the best that they can, and deal with difficulties
they might be having.
Mentors are trained in things such as People Skills, Boundaries,
Confidentiality, Self-Esteem and Child Protection, so they have
all the skills they need to support a young person properly.
As well as this, we will be offering training
on issues that affect young people today, like Bullying, Eating
Disorders, Self–Harm, Anxiety, Drugs, Alcohol, and Sexual
Health, making sure that mentors have up to date information on
what to do, and how to do deal with it, when supporting young people.
The programme builds on the knowledge and
enthusiasm of young people who wish to develop their skills in Peer
Mentoring, by providing in-depth training that will lead to accreditation
in both SQA and Youth Achievements Platinum (for those aged 16 and
over) or Gold (for those under 16).
Through this young people will be able to
achieve and reach their full potential.
Mentors
will also have a support worker who will assist and support them,
and make sure they feel comfortable and confident with their mentoring,
and are getting everything out of it that they can.
