Xplore Dundee - Aims

Xplore promotes social inclusion for 11 – 18 year olds in Dundee. We have 5 Key Aims;

  • Engagement – supporting young people to re-engage in learning and social opportunities
  • Achievement – supporting young people to set and achieve personal goals
  • Vulnerability – addressing negative peer pressure and offending behaviour
  • Health – promoting healthy lifestyles and choices
  • Self – developing a person-centred approach

There are 3 areas of provision;

One to One
We have a team of 8 Project Workers providing intensive one to one support to a maximum caseload of 25 young people. Each Youth Worker is linked directly to a Dundee Secondary School. Young People choose to work with us and set their own targets and timescales. Many of the goals relate to school attendance, behaviour, peer relationships, etc. The Youth Workers provide advice, support and link with all the other agencies involved with the young person.

We have a Peer Support Worker providing mentoring support and assisting young people to engage in positive activities.

Group Work
Aimed at Xplore clients who are on part-time timetables, excluded or non-attenders. There are three main areas of group work:

  • Behavioural/Emotional difficulties
  • Vulnerability
  • Transition

Referrals come directly from the Youth Workers supporting the young people.

Community Support
Xplore has 4 Youth Support Workers to support young people’s involvement in community activities. These workers have close links with fieldwork staff and develop joint initiatives. We also have an established programme of exclusive activities for Xplore such as outdoor education, college tasters and holiday programmes.
We have a Project Worker supporting young people to achieve accreditation at Youth Achievement Awards, Duke of Edinburgh's and Natural Connections
Young people are also given the opportunity to voice the views with our Consultation Worker, who has links with local projects and Dundee City Council
